Nikita Varelas: “It’s great to have such a sense of community within the club”

Nikita Varelas is Box Hill United through and through – the former Box Hill Miniroos player returns once again to the senior squad ahead of an exciting 2024 campaign.

After an injury-plagued junior career, recently Varelas has proven just how deadly he can be in the Pythagoras attack. After a brilliant season in the u21’s scoring 11 goals in seven appearances, he very quickly transitioned into the senior team without fuss and now named as deputy captain.

The clinical winger bagged five goals in his first full senior season in 2022 and went to another level last season with eight goals in 18 appearances.

Nikita, who models his game on Mohamed Salah, has been at Box Hill since he was just ten years old and has a deep connection to the club.

His amazing attitude, loyalty and determination to succeed after many setbacks in his junior career embodies what Box Hill United is all about. Varelas sees himself succeeding further at Box Hill United in the near future.

“In 5 years’ time, I see myself in NPL 1 with this club achieving great things,” he said.

The ambitions of the team are consistent amongst the playing group and Varelas is no different, with a clear aim on the target.

“As a team, we’d like to win the league outright this season and individually I’d like to contribute to that success with as many goals as I can,” he added.

Varelas has a message for the Box Hill United fans as we approach the season opener in 2024.

“It means a lot to the boys when you come down and it’s great to have such a sense of community within the club,” he shared.

“We are all fired up for Friday nights!”
