Box Hill United plays out goalless draw with Boroondara Eagles

Box Hill United’s Senior Men and Boroondara Eagles could not be split in a 0-0 draw at Wembley Park on Friday night.

Both teams came into this contest with a point to prove, eager to rebound from tough losses last round.

A cagey start ensued however, but Pythagoras were looking to make their mark early.

Augustin Casco was a key driver of this, forcing a first effort on target after his usual trickery created more time for himself to muster the shot.

Down the other end, Ethan Yokarinis, stepping in for Luke Del Vecchio, was involved twice to halt Boroondara’s attempts in the penalty area.

Much of the match was dictated by Michael Romas, who particularly did well to take first touches and hold up the ball as he led the line.

Pythagoras looked to gain ascendancy throughout the night, which ramped up again from the hour mark as Nikita Varelas was presented with two big chances but had unfortunately just missed with accuracy.

The fresh legs of Nick Koutsoubos added some spark from the bench, as he looked to pressure a tired defence with his pace.

A competitive match had its chance for late drama, where Boroondara crafted free kick opportunities late on with balls into the box.

Ultimately, Pythagoras and Boroondara would be relived to clinch a clean sheet in a 0-0 result as they share the points.
