Box Hill United’s Senior Men come from behind to clinch 2-1 win over Essendon Royals

Box Hill United’s Senior Men have recorded a team-lifting 2-1 win over Essendon Royals at Cross Keys Reserve on Friday night.

If the last contest with the Royals – a 3-3 draw in Round 3 – was anything to go by, it was destined to throw in more storylines.

As Pythagoras mixed it with league leaders North Sunshine Eagles and nearly came away with a point, it was the perfect opportunity to bring the same effort and endeavour.

However, as the Royals having a say by taking an early lead through Dean Clarke, there was still a sense of calm amongst the Box Hill faithful, knowing that there would be many more twists to come.

Despite the deficit, Pythagoras were able to regroup as the Royals were pushing hard for a second. The hosts started to show flair in attack, but Box Hill responded with the crafty Ruben Sanchez Marcano contributing well.

A narrow 1-0 margin was held with the Royals by half time, as plenty was still on the line.

In a game that felt in the balance all night, suddenly the switch was flicked after an hour had been played.

From the moment Nick Weller put his header over the bar from a corner, it was an ominous sign of what was going to unfold.

Midfield maestro Augustin Casco curled a composed effort wide, but it was his creativity that came to the fore at a crucial time.

A precise cutback was all that Sanchez Marcano needed to take the time to shoot towards goal, with a clinical strike that levelled the game inside a quarter hour of regular time.

Not settling for just a point, Pythagoras didn’t rest on their laurels as the corners kept mounting.

In similar vein to last week, it was Luke Pickett again courtesy of a corner who pounced like a goal poacher would to put Box Hill into a 2-1 lead.

The Royals weren’t going to make it easy, as blocks and clearances late on from the Pythagoras defence repelled any last ditch efforts.

A memorable night in Essendon as a Box Hill United side displayed their never-say-die attitude once more.
