NPL Women Match Preview: Round 3 vs Preston Lions

Box Hill United’s Senior Women welcome Preston Lions to Wembley Park, in a standalone Good Friday fixture across the competition.

Box Hill United have faced back-to-back defeats – however both have been slender ones, as Pythagoras rued some missed opportunities against Bentleigh Greens last round and will be eager to bounce back.

The Lions have played the solitary game instead of Pythagoras’ two, where they travelled to David Barro Stadium in the Veneto Club and recorded a 3-2 away victory over Boroondara Eagles.

No team in NPL Women has started the 2024 season with two wins from two matches, with a victory set to drastically change where both teams sit on the table.

Preston Lions players to watch:

It was a determined effort from Preston Lions to turnaround a 2-0 deficit against Boroondara from half-time, with a couple of their off-season additions on the scoresheet.

Haley Johnson joined from UMF Selfoss in Iceland and brings forward craft to the attack. The 24-year-old showcases work rate, field vision, and ball-winning abilities.

Aimie Adcock has come across from the FV Emerging program and has already shown her potential by representing Victoria at the National Youth Championships previously.

Last time we met:

On the final day of the 2023 season, Box Hill United travelled to B.T. Connor Reserve and defeated Preston 5-1.

Mindy Barbieri was the star for Pythagoras with a hattrick, while Asuka Doi and Kanna Moriya chipped in with single goals each.

Substitute Melanie Camilleri got a consolation goal for the hosts in the second half.
