NPL Women Match Preview: Round 5 vs FC Bulleen Lions

Box Hill United welcomes FC Bulleen Lions to Wembley Park on Friday night, in what shapes up to be an intriguing contest.

Pythagoras resume NPL Women duties after going down 2-1 to Calder United in the Nike F.C. Cup, following on from an opening league win in 2024 against Alamein FC with the same scoreline.

Despite the one loss from Bulleen, they are still first on the NPL Women league table ahead of the undefeated FV Emerging and Preston Lions in a tight-knit battle for spots in the top half of the table that is only separated by three points.

The Lions are one of two teams to hit double-digits in goals in NPL Women with 11, ahead of Calder who have 10.

Their even spread of goal scorers offers multiple avenues of threat to the Pythagoras backline.

FC Bulleen Lions players to watch:

Isabel Dehakiz joined Bulleen in the off-season and has already contributed two goals from four matches. The American midfielder was previously at Portland Thorns FC and brought up through the college system at  Arizona State and Santa Clara.

Another signing for the 2024 season who has two goals from four matches is Yuka Sato. The Japanese midfielder moved across from Southern United and has quick agility with technical skills.

Last time we met:

Box Hill United visited David Barro Stadium at the Veneto Club, where hosts Bulleen ran out 3-0 winners in Round 18 of the 2023 NPL Women season.

All the goals came in the first half, through singles from Alana Burn, Tiffany Eliadis and Beatrice Goad.
