Ryo Okamoto: “Together we can definitely achieve results”
Box Hill United is delighted to announce the acquisition of 27-year-old defender Ryo Okamoto.
Okamoto, formerly from the Japanese side Lagend Shiga FC, brings lots of experience to the team. With a career spanning various esteemed clubs in Japan, Okamoto has finally decided to take his talents abroad in Australia.
Natural as a right-sided full-back or wing-back, Okamoto says he draws inspiration from speedy, end-to-end defenders.
“I possess good technique, speed and agility.” he said.
In the 2023 season, Okamoto was named vice-captain of the Lagend Shiga FC first team, leading his side to a historic record-finish second place despite battling through injuries.
Since relocating to Australia, Okamoto has set his ambitions high and has clear targets for the 2024 season with Box Hill United.
“My priority is for the team is to win many games as possible” he said.
“Individually, I’d like to aim for five goals and five assists.”
Despite being a defender, Okamoto is not shy of hitting the back of the net. He ended the 2023 season with an impressive tally of five goals from 25 appearances for Lagend Shiga FC.
Okamoto is eager to leave his mark on Australian football in the 2024 season. He concluded his interview with a message to the fans:
