Deborah Lawrence: “I’ve heard so much about the great Box Hill culture”
Box Hill United FC is pleased to confirm goalkeeper Deborah Lawrence has signed with the Senior Women’s team for 2024.
The 32-year-old shot stopper spent last season playing for Bayside Argonauts FC, while most of her career has been in Tasmania.
Now stepping up to NPL Women, Lawrence already has a close connection to her new Club.
“I live quite close to Box Hill and I went to university near here so I’ve known the Club for quite some time,” she said.
“My previous club was Greek-based as well so I know the culture will be good.”
Crediting her dad’s coaching in a park that urged her to play football, Lawrence has now been a reliable goalkeeper for over 10 years.
“I started playing football quite late – on a farm in South Africa we actually had a soccer field right outside my house,” she said.
“I always knew about the game, but only started playing for a team when I was 18 in Australia.
Looking ahead to 2024, Lawrence has many past experiences to bring for the squad to learn from.
“I want to be able to gel within the team and learn a lot from the NPL level,” she said.
“Within the next few years I hope I can still be performing at my best and pushing myself and the team as far as we can.”
Having known about what Box Hill United brings to the table, Lawrence is elated to be involved.
“I feel like there is so much support already,” she said.
“I’ve heard so much about the great Box Hill culture and fans, so make sure you keep doing what you do best!”
