Dockerty Cup Match Preview: Round 4 vs Caroline Springs George Cross
Box Hill United’s Senior Men begin their 2024 Dockerty Cup journey when they take on Caroline Springs George Cross at Wembley Park on Wednesday night.
Pythagoras head into the cup tie with goalscoring form, most recently putting three past Essendon Royals in Victoria Premier League 2. Tony Merakis’ men will have optimism in causing problems for the visitors, having also scored a late goal against second-placed North Sunshine Eagles in the league.
George Cross earned automatic promotion to Victoria Premier League 1 this season, after topping the NPL 3 table in 2023 being 10 points clear of Melbourne Victory. They currently sit in 10th spot in VPL 1, with a logjam of other teams around them.
Caroline Springs George Cross players to watch:
Russell Currie is the Georgie’s top league marksman with four goals from his seven matches so far. The 22-year-old was on Goulburn Valley Sun’s roster in 2023, before making the move to Caroline Springs this campaign. Currie boasts plenty of experience from the UK, particularly Scotland.
Nicholas Sette has scored twice in seven league appearances so far. The 23-year-old right winger started out with Melbourne Victory’s youth team and has already had plenty of experience within all levels of Victorian football. He has been involved with Altona Magic, FC Bulleen Lions and Northcote City in yearly spells before landing at George Cross in 2024.
Last time we met:

It was evenly poised at half time with the sides level 1-1 thanks to Hussain Al Sharifi and Otman Benhaddou for Box Hill United and George Cross respectively, but the visitors managed to grab a late match winner through substitute Aiden Brown.
