VPL 2 Men Match Report: Pythagoras seal 2-0 win over Boroondara Eagles

Box Hill United’s Senior Men sealed a 2-0 win over Boroondara Eagles at Wilcox Fields in Bulleen.

Sam Maramis put Box Hill United in front quickly to provide the perfect platform to build on, as the visiting Pythagoras looked to keep the ball whenever possible and carve out chances from it.

Luke Del Vecchio and his defence were sturdy as Boorondara worked their way into the contest at the half hour mark. As Alex Meaney appeared the most ominous Eagles attacker, a quick succession of defensive efforts from Yianni Toumanidis, Taofiq Olomowewe and Del Vecchio was a sign that it wouldn’t be easy to get past.

Pythagoras took the 1-0 advantage into the break and when play resumed, they picked up where they left off. Agustin Casco proved a handful for the Boroondara backline as a tight offside call denied him a goal and the two-goal cushion.

Del Vecchio stood up again when it counted as a save to his right kept Pythagoras out of danger. It was a heroic performance where even a big collision was not enough to put him off his game.

Pythagoras eventually sealed the game as Boorondara had no choice but to attack late on, as Ruben Sanchez Marcano exploited space down the right-hand side to find Nick Weller in acres of space and teed up a cross for Tarek Atta on the back post.

Box Hill United’s Senior Men continue their hard work after some tough matchups to this point of the season.
