VPL 2 Men Match Preview: Round 5 vs Altona City

Box Hill United’s Senior Men’s team are back at home for a Round 5 VPL 2 encounter with Altona City on Friday night.

Pythagoras were undone by a single goal against Brunswick Juventus, but competed well for the 90 minutes and will be looking to bring the same intensity to the upcoming contest.

Altona City head into this clash as one of three undefeated teams, with the others being North Sunshine Eagles and Essendon Royals who Pythagoras have already faced.

Box Hill United have been put to the test with all of their VPL opponents including this week occupying the top-five spots, so it promises to be another compelling night of action.

Altona City players to watch:

Luis Covarrubias is the current top goal scorer with four in the back of the net from three matches. His standout game so far in the 2024 season came in a thrilling 4-4 draw with FC Melbourne Srbija, bagging a brace. In Altona City’s promotion from Men’s State League 1 North-West, he scored 13 goals from 21 matches to lead the way as their talisman.

Jayson Ziro is another player that has started brightly. He has four goals from two matches so far this year, while in 2023 he scored four goals from 15 matches in Men’s State League 1 North-West following his move to Altona.
