Taofiq Olomowewe: “We can’t give up and just need to keep going”

Box Hill United Senior Men’s vice-captain Taofiq Olomowewe gave an assessment of Box Hill United’s fortunes, eager to bounce back and turn positive performances into wins.

A defeat to Brunswick Juventus 1-0 has followed a recent trend of narrow margins splitting the difference between the opposition.

In the aftermath post-match, Olomowewe reflected on the result.

“To cop a cheap goal is disappointing, it’s frustrating to be dropping points,” he said.

“In times like this we just need to keep working hard, there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves.

“Everyone has to do their bit away from the club and put performances in – we’re paid to do the job, and that’s all we can do.

“I’ve been in situations like this many times before and it’s just about being consistent with yourself and giving your all to the team.”

A key challenge for the playing group is building resilience to remain strong in the face of adversity, where Pythagoras need to put it all behind them and look forward.

“It’s a fine line, I’m upset and may seem doom and gloom, but we’re only getting defeated by the one goal margin and that’s where we are right now,” he said.

“There is inexperience in the sense of game management and winning games as a club and team, but we can’t give up and just need to keep going.”

The quality of the Victoria Premier League 2 opposition faced has been telling, with Pascoe Vale, North Sunshine Eagles, Essendon Royals, Brunswick Juventus and the upcoming opponents Altona City all making up the top-five league positions.

Olomowewe is confident in a turnaround in form, with mindset the number one key for success.

“If anyone looks at the first four fixtures that we had, you would say it’s top calibre teams with two of them relegated from the league above.

“We should’ve had maximum points in those games but there’s no point saying we could’ve done better, we just have to get on with it and keep going forward.”
